Sylvia Hoeve’s art is inspired by her faith. She sees beauty in God’s creation and tries to express her understanding of that beauty in everything she paints. Her artwork is infused with her passion and prayer. She paints portraits, figures, animals, flowers, landscapes, angels and abstracts. Many of her oil paintings combine different artistic elements: such as a child feeding a horse in a landscape or a woman in a garden.
She began drawing as a young child, and then graduated to ink drawings, water colors and pastels in later childhood. As an adult she took up oil painting, studying under Sue Trowbridge, Pat Ashley, Craig Bishop, Insoon Felch, and Steve Allen. Sylvia works independently at her studio at home now, doing her own work and also taking commissions. Several of her commissions have been portraits of people who are deceased. Sylvia portrays the reposed people in heavenly settings, which bring great comfort to their loved ones. She also does portraits of living people and animals. She is especially good at capturing the spirit of children on canvas in oils.
